Description
Wonderful and original, ca1900 Weeden, Live Steam Toy Train known as the "Weeden Dart" with its original coal tender and original passenger car. This wonderful, working Steam Toy Railroad Train Locomotive Engine measures approx. 4 1/2" tall to the top of its smokestack by 8" long by 2 3/4" wide across the roof of the cab. Assembled the three elements of the Train measure approx. 24" long. The Train would run on a 2 3/16" gauge track. The Toy is made of brass, iron and tin and the Locomotive is impressed with the early trade mark of the Weeden Manufacturing Company as well as the name "Dart". The Coal Car is embossed with letters that read "I. & A. R.R."From steamtoy.com: "The Weeden Manufacturing Company was started by William N. Weeden in the 1880s in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The company first produced oil lamp burners and tin plate household items. Through his dealings he came to meet the owner of the "Youth's Companion" magazine where they struck up a deal to produce toy steam engines to give away as premiums for his magazine. The engine that Weeden produced was the Weeden No.1 which was priced at .00 and held a patent date of May 19, 1885, and manufactured up to 1905. Other products he made were comb cases, match safes and the Weeden Magic Lantern." In the 1890's the Weeden Company expanded their line of steam engines featuring cast iron bases, large brass boiler, nickel plating and more realistic looking steam engines.".
The Toy Steam Engine offered here is a Weeden Dart and believed to be the later version of the Live Steam Train. The Weeden Dart was introduced in 1888 and in production by Weeden until 1918. The Set included the Locomotive, Tender and one Passenger Coach (all included here) with early versions having a 3 wick burner and later versions a four wick burner (the Engine offered here has a 4 wick burner). Although we have not fired up the Engine we guarantee it to be in working order as the Railroad Engine is near complete, intact and well preserved lacking only the cowcatcher. There is some wear to the surface paint of each of the cars as can be seen in the scans below but no damage or repairs of any kind other than the missing cowcatcher). Please take the time to view the numerous scans below for a good representation of form and condition of this highly desirable, Weeden Live Steam Railroad Train!!

Important Notes about Shipping Charges:
The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by eBay and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a .00 "packing fee" - the .00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the .00 fee.
